update

OK so I’ve been slacking in both updating and running. Last week I lost a lot of motivation and things just kept coming up. I can find an excuse in just about anything, which is not good when training for something.

Anyways, I’m back. Ran today and felt good. I think I’m just going to do weekly updates with mileage unless something happens one day that I feel necessary to update. you know like swallowing bugs and throwing up, that kind of stuff.

Alright, Happy running and as always if you have questions on anything or are in San Diego and want to run contact me!

Tonight’s run

Went for a run through balboa park. Swallowed a bug, tried to hack it out, gagged and threw up. Jogged home and called it a day.

Time to start pushing myself more I guess. Tonights run felt easy again and then I got home and mapped it and realized I ran 7:55 pace. That’s not fast. I thought to myself “I need to find that pain cave again” but then I reminded myself that I am just starting again and to take it easy. I think I should be able to push 7:30 pace pretty easy though. Tonights route was a little more hilly than usual as well which may have effected the pace.

Tonight’s run

It was one of those runs you have to look back on when you have a bad run because it felt so easy and everything is more fun when it’s easy right? Annnnyways yeah I’m nowhere near where I want to be or where I know I will be eventually but tonight was a good reminder of why I love running and what it feels like to just cruise. When your turnover feels flawless and you’re light on your feet. No thinking, breathing is easy and you’re just having fun.

33:47

4.4 miles

7:35/mile pace

I’m getting there. Still a lot of work in front of me but running is fun again and motivation is high.

Tools of the trade. Foam roller and planter massager.

Run today went good feeling good second week in. I think I’ll do an end of the week update and just small stuff during the week so it’s not as bland and boring.

Tuesday Run

Another easy 30 minutes. well 29:37 to be exact. Ran 3.6 miles this time so 8:11ish pace. A little sore from yesterday but that was expected. can’t wait to drop some weight and not be as sore each consecutive day. Got a good half plan from my old coach and owner of Fargo Running Company to base some stuff off of for the more intense weeks once the initial 6 of base building are done. Then starts the 12 wk real plan. Can’t wait!

Monday Miles

Ran 30 minutes tonight. Got 3.75 miles which is about 8:05 pace. Not really looking at anything special but I just want to get out and run this week. I know it’s going to suck for this first month until I get an OK base built up and then it will be fun again. I’m motivated this time for real and actually look forward to running again. It’s a great feeling to have back.

I also decided to start eating less meat. Just basically being more aware of what I’m putting in my body. We’ll see how it goes.

Here we go

Looking back at my old running logs from college. It’s still hard for me to comprehend some of the workouts we did. For example:

Michigan Workout:

1200 on the track

1 mile tempo around

400m on the track

1 mile tempo around

800 on the track

1 mile tempo around

1600 on the track

The only rest we got was the time it took to change from spikes to trainers for the 1 mile around the outside of the track complex.

This was one of the toughest among others like:

5x 1mile w/400m jog rest

13x 600m @ race pace w/200m jog rest

4x4x400m: these were tough. 4 sets of 4x400m each complete mile had to be faster than the last.

It’s fun to look back at these and it’s extremely motivating knowing that I could do that again. I wish I didn’t let myself get as far away from running as I have but at the same time I needed it. Now the motivation is back more than ever and I’m excited to get back into it.

18 weeks until Fargo Half and I’m shooting for sub 1:20 as my goal depending on training. My PR there is 1:25 so anything faster than that would be awesome.

Training starts tomorrow
